My name is Niamh Colling, and I am a recent graduate with a BA (hons) in Costume Design and Construction. I have developed a broad range of making skills including pattern drafting and cutting, millinery, leather work, breaking down, jewellery making, and embroidery. Through years of avidly watching numerous period dramas, and wishing I could wear all the garments, I have loved having the opportunity to design and create historical costumes, experimenting with how these can be adapted to fully express a character’s personality.  I thoroughly enjoy designing the small details of a costume, with which the performer can interact with, allowing the costume to not only highlight the plot but to also become part of it. in. I am passionate about sustainability and have explored various ways of making my process more environmentally friendly through using recycled materials and experimenting with natural dyes. I believe that costumes, are crucial in bringing performances alive, allowing the audience to fully immerse themselves into the world that has been created. This has led me to desire experience in both film and theatre to fully explore all avenues of costume, so that I can find my true vocation.
